Mr Abir Bhattacharyya is a highly experienced consultant ENT surgeon with over 30 years of practice in the NHS and independent sector across central and northeast London. He manages a wide range of ear, nose, and throat conditions in adults and children, with an extensive referral base including complex tertiary cases. He has a well-established private practice at Spire London East Hospital, Nuffield Health The Holly Hospital and Nuffield Health Brentwood Hospital in Essex and Lyca Health Canary Wharf and 150 Harley Street in Central London.
He has a specialist interest in otology and is frequently referred complex cases by fellow ENT consultants. His expertise includes assessment and surgical management of hearing loss, including stapedectomy for otosclerosis, ossiculoplasty, middle ear implants, and cholesteatoma surgery.
He also leads a tertiary multidisciplinary voice clinic, working closely with speech and language therapists to manage voice disorders, and has significant experience in microsurgical and laryngeal framework procedures to improve vocal function. He has a strong interest in rhinology, with extensive experience in managing nasal and sinus disease, including functional endoscopic sinus surgery (FESS) for chronic sinusitis.
Over his career, Mr Bhattacharyya has performed more than 1,500 complex ear procedures, alongside a high volume of endoscopic sinus and laryngeal surgeries, delivering consistently excellent outcomes.
He has held key leadership roles in medical education, including Training Programme Director for surgical trainees in London and Deputy Director for Medical Education. A committed clinical academic, he has published widely and authored several textbooks. His GP-focused textbook was highly commended at the BMA Medical Book Awards (2012), with a second edition published in 2020. He has also edited major international postgraduate texts in laryngology and the 10th edition of Recent Advances in Otolaryngology (2025).
Mr Bhattacharyya serves on the Editorial Board and is a Trustee of the Journal of Laryngology and Otology. He is a member of the Court of Examiners at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and contributes to the Intercollegiate Board in Otolaryngology. He is also a Council Member of ENT UK and Regional Specialty Professional Advisor (RSPA) at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
He has received numerous academic awards, including the Royal College Travelling Fellowship, and remains active in teaching, delivering national and international courses, workshops, and lectures.
In recognition of his contribution to the specialty, he was awarded Fellowship of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) in 2007 and is a frequent invited speaker at international conferences.
