Professional statement
Mr Ahmed Toma is a highly skilled consultant neurosurgeon with extensive expertise in both open surgical andendovascular neurovascular techniques. After graduating with distinction from medical school, he completed his clinical neurosurgical training at the renowned National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) at Queen Square, part of the University College London Hospital (UCLH) Foundation Trust. In 2014, he was appointed as a consultant neurosurgeon at NHNN, following his receipt of an MD (Res.) from St George’s University of London in 2012, where his research focused on adult hydrocephalus.
Mr Toma specialises in the treatment of various complex neurological conditions, including brain aneurysms, chiari malformation, hydrocephalus, and spinal stenosis. His clinical expertise spans a wide range of procedures, from carpal tunnel surgery and lumbar punctures to advanced endoscopic and spine surgeries. As one of the few neurosurgeons in the U.K. dual-trained in both open and interventional neuroradiology, he has completed a fellowship in interventional neuroradiology at Queen Square, further enhancing his capabilities in managing conditions such as dural arteriovenous fistulas (dAVFs) and idiopathic intracranial hypertension.
In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Toma is actively involved in research and professional organisations. He serves as an honorary associate professor in the Department of Brain Repair and Rehabilitation at UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology and holds leadership roles in numerous professional groups, including the International Society for Hydrocephalus and Cerebrospinal Fluid Disorders, the British Neurovascular Group, and the UK CSF Leak Association Scientific Advisory Group. His dedication to advancing neurosurgical care and his contributions to the field have established him as a leader in his specialty.
