Professional statement
Dr Alzbeta Karlikova is a renowned consultant child and adolescent psychiatrist at Re:Cognition Health London. She qualified in medicine in 2012 from Charles University in Prague and completed her psychiatric training within the NHS at the East London NHS Foundation Trust and the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
In addition to her clinical training, Dr Karlikova has undertaken extensive postgraduate study in order to better understand the families and young people she works with. She gained further expertise in Psychodynamic Counselling and Organisational Dynamics through Birkbeck, University of London, and was awarded a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychiatry from Cardiff University with distinction. She has also completed Foundation Training in Systemic Family Therapy at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust.
Dr Karlikova has broad experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health conditions, including anxiety disorders, depression, psychosis, bipolar disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), emerging personality disorders, and attachment-related difficulties. While she gained her experiences working with people across the lifespan, her primary area of expertise is child and adolescent psychiatry.
Dr Karlikova places particular emphasis on evidence based, holistic and person centred assessment and treatment, where every voice can be heard and met with understanding and compassion. Before specialising in neurodevelopmental conditions, she worked with young people and families with severe behavioural challenges, including those affected by self-harm, involved with youth offending services or attending specialist school placements.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Karlikova previously served as a Research Associate with the Centre for Understanding Personality Disorder. This collaborative research programme brings together the DeanCross Personality Disorder Service, East London NHS Foundation Trust, the Centre for Psychiatry at the Wolfson Institute, Barts and The London School of Medicine & Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, and the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford.
