Mr Andre Ismail

Mr Andre Ismail is a consultant ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgeon with extensive experience in eye surgery. He has performed several thousand cataract procedures, including those involving multifocal lens implants and lens replacement surgeries.

Trained as a general ophthalmologist, he has managed a wide range of eye conditions over the years, such as cataracts, glaucoma, and ocular surface disorders. As an oculoplastic surgeon, he has developed particular expertise in eyelid and tear duct (lacrimal) surgery. He regularly audits his surgical outcomes to maintain high standards of care and continuously enhance his clinical practice.

Mr Ismail was born and educated in North London. He graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School, University of London, in 1996. His postgraduate training included Emergency Medicine, Neurosurgery, and Ophthalmology, undertaken across London and the South East. Following his core ophthalmic training, he completed two years of specialist fellowships in Oculoplastic and Lacrimal Surgery in Salisbury and at the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital.

With over 25 years of NHS experience, Mr Ismail currently serves as a consultant ophthalmologist at West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust. There, he provides general ophthalmic and cataract services, established the Eyelid and Lacrimal Service, and has held the role of Clinical Director for Ophthalmology. His contributions have been recognised with clinical excellence awards. Mr Ismail is also passionate about education and training, serving as a tutor and mentor for trainee ophthalmic surgeons and as an examiner for final-year medical students.
