Mr Atanu Bhattacharjee is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Swansea Bay University Health Board, specialising in hip and knee disorders, degenerative joint disease and complex reconstruction. His practice focuses on delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care aimed at restoring mobility, relieving pain, and improving quality of live.
He is experienced in both non-operative management and advanced surgical techniques, including primary, complex primary, and revision arthroplasy. He also manages metastatic bone disease around the hip and knee, performing endoprosthetic reconstruction when appropriate.
Mr Bhattahcharjee completed his basic surgical training in Cardiff and Newcastle, followed by a PhD in cartilage regeneration at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital, alongside a Master´s degree for which he received the JB Rowlands Medal. He completed higher surgical training through the All-Wales Orthopaedic Training Programme and undertook an advanced arthroplasty fellowship in Bristol and a complex trauma fellowship in Liverpool.
He has contributed to national and international registry work, including the National Joint Registry (UK) and the Swedish Joint Registry, and maintains active involvement in clinical research and innovation. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Swansea University and is committed to training junior doctors and medical students.
