Professor Christian Becker is a consultant gynaecologist in Oxford. He specialises in endometriosis, minimal access (keyhole) surgery, and fertility treatments alongside polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), hormone replacement therapy (HRT), ovarian cysts, menstrual disorders, hysteroscopy and adolescent gynaecology.
He privately practises at Nuffield Health Oxford, The Manor Hospital, and is co-director and clinical lead of Oxford Endometriosis CaRe Centre, Consultant Oxford Fertility Unit, while his NHS base is Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHFT) where he is a consultant gynaecologist and subspecialist in reproductive medicine and surgery.
After studying medicine at the Freie Universität Berlin, Professor Becker completed clinical training in obstetrics and gynaecology at the Charité Berlin. He subsequently spent five years as a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard Medical School, where he worked under the mentorship of Professor Judah Folkman on angiogenesis and antiangiogenic therapy in cancer and endometriosis. In 2005, he joined the Nuffield Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Oxford, progressing from clinical fellow and lecturer to senior lecturer and honorary consultant gynaecologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital. He was appointed Associate Professor in 2013 and Professor of Reproductive Sciences in 2023.
Professor Becker co-founded the Oxford Endometriosis CaRe Centre with Professor Krina Zondervan in 2013. Together, they lead pioneering research to improve the genetic and molecular understanding of gynaecological conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis, PCOS and uterine fibroids, with the aim of advancing treatment and improving patient outcomes. He also serves as principal investigator on multiple research studies and clinical trials.
He currently chairs the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE) Guideline Development Group for the Management of Women with Endometriosis and is a member of the NICE Guideline Committee for Endometriosis. His professional memberships include the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy and the British Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Gynaecology.
Through his clinical and academic leadership, Professor Becker continues to shape international best practice in reproductive medicine and minimally invasive gynaecological surgery, while providing highly specialised care for women with complex gynaecological conditions.
