Dr Cinzia Papadia is a consultant gastroenterologist in central London who specialises in colorectal cancer screening, gastric cancer and bowel cancer, alongside coeliac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, interventional endoscopy and clinical nutrition. She practises privately at The London Independent Hospital, part of Circle Health Group, and her NHS role is Whipps Cross University Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust, where she is consultant physician and gastroenterologist, clinical lead in clinical nutrition and a bowel cancer screening endoscopist.
Dr Papadia graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Bologna in 1990 and went on to complete a Diploma of Specialisation in Gastroenterology at the University of Perugia in 1994. She later obtained a Medical Research Doctorate (MD) from Imperial College London, further strengthening her academic and research background. In 2023, she achieved certification of competency in bowel cancer screening colonoscopy. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, and is an active member of the British Society of Gastroenterology.
Her clinical practice combines expertise in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy with a strong focus on early cancer detection and prevention. She is highly experienced in managing patients with inflammatory bowel disease, coeliac disease, dyspepsia and other complex gastrointestinal conditions. As clinical lead in clinical nutrition, she provides specialist care for patients with nutritional and metabolic complications related to gastrointestinal disease, working within a multidisciplinary framework to optimise patient outcomes.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Papadia has an established academic and teaching role. She is an honorary senior lecturer at Queen Mary University of London and an honorary external assessor for the Clinical Nutrition MSc at the University of Tartu, Estonia. She also holds a position as adjunct professor at the University of Bologna. In addition, she contributes to national and international initiatives as a member of the National Advisory Committee for Biosafety, Biotechnology and Life Sciences to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of Italy, and as an elected member of the British Society of Gastroenterology Clinical Research Group “Food and Function” committee.
Dr Papadia has an active research profile, with work focusing on gastric cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and clinical nutrition. She has presented widely at leading international conferences, including the British Society of Gastroenterology, Digestive Disease Week and the World Congress on Gastrointestinal Cancer.
Her research has been recognised with several awards, including the British Society of Gastroenterology Annual Research Prize for abstract of distinction and best poster award, as well as first prize at the Homerton University Hospital Annual R&D Conference. Through her combined clinical, academic and research work, Dr Papadia delivers evidence-based, patient-centred care tailored to individual patient needs.
