Mr David Exon

Professional statement

Mr David Exon is a vastly experienced consultant general surgeon based in Leicester who specialises in upper gastrointestinal surgery, bariatric surgery, hernia, gallbladder surgery, acid reflux and diabetes surgery. He attends to private patients at both Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital and Spire Leicester Hospital. 

He qualified from the University of London, completing his bachelor of medicine, bachelor of surgery training at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine, before embarking on a higher surgical training path that took him from London to Hong Kong. Upon his return to the UK, he worked on the Northwest Thames rotation and was later appointed consultant upper gastrointestinal and laparoscopic surgeon at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee, a role he fulfilled with distinction until he moved to Leicester in 2010.

Mr Exon favours minimally invasive surgical techniques whenever possible. Over the course of his consultant career he has performed over 1500 laparoscopic (keyhole) procedures, a method he perfected during his fellowship training with the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh and Ireland.

He is passionate about leading the next generation of surgeons, as well as furthering his own knowledge. Prior to taking on his first consultant role, Mr Exon was clinical lecturer in oesphago-gastric surgery at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and is a member of the Society of Academic and Research surgery.
