Mr David James

Mr David James is a highly skilled Consultant Colorectal Surgeon based in Oxford and London. With over 20 years’ experience, he is an expert in High Resolution Anoscopy, anal dysplasia, proctology, and the treatment of bowel cancer.

He consults privately at The Manor Hospital, Oxford and Welbeck, London. Alongside his private practice, he holds an NHS Consultant position at Oxford University Hospitals, where he serves as the Clinical Lead for the Department of Colorectal Surgery. He is also the Colorectal Cancer Lead for the Thames Valley Cancer Alliance.

Mr James is a prominent figure in his specialty with an impressive career path. Before taking up his Consultant post in Oxford, he undertook two world-renowned Fellowships in leading institutions; a Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at The Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA focusing on robotic surgery, and a second Fellowship in Australia at Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in Queensland, where he developed skills in advanced minimally invasive colorectal surgery.

He undertook Basic Surgical Training at St Mary’s Hospital, London and Higher Surgical Training in Oxford. He completed a PhD at the prestigious Hamlyn Centre for Robotic Surgery, Imperial College. In 2016, he was commended with the distinguished ASGBI Gold Medal for his final exams of the FRCS for the Royal College of Surgeons.

Included in his clinical practice is also a sub-specialist interest in proctology, High Resolution Anoscopy, anal dysplasia, Haemorrhoids, Colorectal cancer, anal fissure, pruritis ani, anal fistula surgery, diverticular disease, and colonoscopy.
