Mr David Redfern
Orthopaedic Surgery in Central London, Hove and Horley

Professional statement
Mr David Redfern is an exceptionally esteemed, trusted, highly trained and experienced London-based orthopaedic surgeon who specialises in foot and ankle problems. He is internationally recognised for developing minimally invasive techniques for treating foot and ankle-related conditions, and treats the full spectrum of foot and ankle complaints. He also has a vast amount of experience when it comes to medicolegal work.
Dr Redfern possesses, to say the least, quite the impressive medical cirriculum to-date. One of the most notable aspects of his medical work thus far in his remarkable career has been inventing the MICA technique (Minimally Invasive Chevron Akin) as an incredibly effective minimally invasive treatment option for correcting bunions through the use of keyhole surgery.
To-date, Mr Redfern has performed a substantial amount of minimally invasive foot and ankle surgical procedures throughout the past decade and was the first surgeon responsible for first introducing these modern, innovative and well-regarded minimally invasive techniques throughout Europe, Australia, as well as the US.
Outside of his clinic, he teaches and lectures nationally and internationally and is both a writer and a reviewer for a range of prestigious, peer-reviewed journals. He forms an integral part of numerous professional bodies including the European Foot and Ankle Society, for which he serves as a council member.

- Brilliant Dr would highly recommend.
- In 2004 I had operation on my little toe on both feet. The operation was done at Harley Street Clinic. Unfortunately the surgery was not done successfully on my left foot. I could not go back to see the who did the surgery surgeon as he had retired. The pain was excruciating and my life was compromised as I could only wear trainers and even than I had the pain. The feeling was as if the pin was inserted in my toe. I saw a number of consultants since 2004 and could not get diagnosed. I was told that it could be an “open nerve” and it is best to leave it as it is. One consultant suggested that if it is so painful I could have the toe amputated. At one hospital I was told if I decide to have surgery there is a chance it will get worse after or it could stay the same. This year I met Mr Redfern and my life changed. Mr Redfern had a look at my toe and immediately said” I know what it is”. There was an instant trust in Mr Redfern, how could it not be, after all these years of unbearable pain and no diagnoses from consultants suddenly I had a hope. Mr Redfern was very clear in his diagnoses and said that chances of success were 90 percent. I had my surgery in April and it was a total SUCCESS. I now can wear any shoes I like and am still getting used to not having a pain and not changing several pairs of shoes a day. Mr Redfern is an AMAZING specialist who is approachable, kind and gentle. I would recommend him without hesitation to anyone who has problems with their feet. He gave me my foot back and also my life! I will be grateful to him forever.
- My surgery with Mr Redfern was a complete success. Everything went according to plan. I was very looked after from start to finish, well informed throughout. I'm very pleased with the result and would highly recommend Mr Redfern.
- Efficient, professional and clear & with a friendly and responsive support team
