Mr Dong Park is a double board-certified, fellowship-trained consultant ophthalmic surgeon and honorary associate clinical professor at the University of Warwick. He holds appointments as an honorary consultant surgeon at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre and lead vitreoretinal surgeon at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire NHS Trust.
Mr Park studied Medicine at the University of St Andrews, completing his clinical training at the University of Manchester. He graduated with a BSc in Medical Sciences in 2003, followed by an MB ChB in 2006. During his undergraduate training, Mr Park was awarded the prestigious RCPCH Medical Student Prize. His early postgraduate training was undertaken at University Hospitals Birmingham, followed by specialist ophthalmology training at Manchester Royal Eye Hospital.
After completing specialist training and receiving his Certificate of Completion of Training in Ophthalmology, Mr Park became a Fellow of both the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the European Board of Ophthalmology in 2015. He then undertook a further three years of advanced subspecialty training, completing post-CCT vitreoretinal surgery fellowships at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College London Healthcare NHS Trust.
Mr Park is widely recognised for his surgical expertise and his commitment to safe, effective, and minimally invasive care across a broad range of eye conditions. Early in his career, he was audited as the highest-performing cataract surgeon among North West trainee surgeons in the UK. He was the first surgeon in the UK to introduce air tamponade for retinal detachment surgery and continues to pioneer innovative techniques for lamellar macular holes. His practice covers complex cataract surgery, premium and secondary lens implantation, vitreoretinal surgery for macular disease, floaters, and retinal detachments.
