Mr Gareth Llewelyn Roberts is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Cardiff, specialising exclusively in hip conditions across the full spectrum — from young adult hip preservation to advanced joint replacement.

For patients with hip dysplasia, Mr Roberts is one of a small number of surgeons in Wales offering Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO) — a joint-preserving procedure that can prevent or delay the need for a hip replacement in younger patients. He trained directly with Mr Johan Witt, an internationally recognised expert in hip preservation surgery.

For patients with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), labral tears, or hip and groin pain, Mr Roberts performs hip arthroscopy using minimally invasive keyhole techniques to reshape bone and repair damaged tissue.

For patients requiring total hip replacement, Mr Roberts offers a choice of surgical approaches tailored to the individual — including the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA), which allows patients to walk earlier and recover faster, with an optional bikini incision for a cosmetically discreet scar. He also performs robotic-assisted total hip replacement, using advanced technology to optimise implant positioning for long-term results. The traditional posterior approach remains available for patients where this is the most appropriate option.
