Dr Gerasimos Dimitropoulos is a highly experienced consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist practising in Bristol with specialist expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. In addition to managing the full spectrum of general cardiology conditions, he has a particular interest in cardiac electrophysiology and provides advanced invasive treatments for patients with complex arrhythmias.
His specialist practice includes catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation, atrial tachycardias, supraventricular tachycardia, ventricular ectopic beats and ventricular tachycardia, as well as the implantation and management of cardiac devices, including pacemakers, transvenous and subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs), and complex device revision procedures.
Dr Dimitropoulos graduated from the University of Patras Medical School in Greece in 2009 before undertaking higher specialist training in cardiology in the West Midlands. He completed advanced subspecialty training in cardiac electrophysiology and cardiac devices at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Birmingham, followed by a prestigious fellowship in electrophysiology at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
In 2021, he was appointed consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, where he established and led the ventricular arrhythmia ablation service and a dedicated ventricular tachycardia clinic. Since January 2026, he has been practising as a consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
He also holds honorary consultant roles with University Hospitals Plymouth and Brighton, performing complex electrophysiology procedures, and sees private patients at Spire Bristol Hospital and Nuffield Health Exeter Hospital.
Alongside his clinical work, Dr Dimitropoulos has a strong academic and educational background. He was awarded a PhD in Cardiovascular Science in 2018 for his research into antiplatelet therapy, and his work has been presented at international scientific meetings and published in leading peer-reviewed journals. He also holds a qualification in medical education from the University of Warwick and is actively involved in the teaching and training of medical students and junior doctors.
Dr Dimitropoulos is certified in cardiac electrophysiology by the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) and is a member of the British Cardiovascular Society, the British Heart Rhythm Society and the European Society of Cardiology.
He is committed to delivering evidence-based, personalised care, combining the latest advances in electrophysiology with a patient-centred approach to achieve the best possible outcomes for individuals with heart rhythm disorders.
