Professor Gianluca Rompianesi is a highly accomplished consultant HPB surgeon based in London, practising at The Wellington Hospital. He specialises in hepatobiliary, pancreatic, transplant and robotic surgery, with particular expertise in pancreas surgery, robotic surgery, adrenal gland surgery, kidney transplantation, and complex liver and biliary conditions including cholangiocarcinoma. With over 15 years of international experience, he is widely recognised for his expertise in managing complex cases using advanced minimally invasive and robotic techniques.
Professor Rompianesi completed his medical degree in 2009 at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, where he also undertook his general surgery training with honours and a PhD awarded cum laude. He further refined his expertise through prestigious fellowships at leading UK institutions, including the Royal Free Hospital, Oxford University Hospitals, the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. He holds dual fellowships from the European Board of Surgery in Hepato-Bilio-Pancreatic Surgery and Transplantation, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
In addition to his clinical practice, Professor Rompianesi has a strong academic and leadership profile. He is currently Assistant Professor of Surgery and leads the Living Donor Transplantation Programme at Federico II University Hospital in Naples. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications and received multiple international awards for his contributions to surgical research and innovation. He is also actively involved in the international surgical community, serving on editorial boards and as a board member of the European Society for Organ Transplantation.
