Professional statement
Mr Sayed Iqbal Miakhil is a Consultant Urological Surgeon based in Peterborough, specialising in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of urological conditions. His clinical expertise includes kidney stones, kidney cancer, prostate cancer, and bladder cancer, as well as the evaluation of haematuria (blood in urine), urethral strictures, and renal masses identified on ultrasound. He also provides male contraception services, including vasectomy and vasectomy reversal using advanced microscopic techniques.
Mr Miakhil practices privately at Fitzwilliam Hospital, part of Ramsay Health Care UK. His NHS base is Peterborough City Hospital, within North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, where he also serves as Surgical Block Lead for medical students.
Fluent in Pashto, Farsi, and Hindi, Mr Miakhil graduated with distinction from the State Medical Institute of Nangarhar, Afghanistan, earning his MD in 2000. He subsequently moved to the UK to pursue surgical training, beginning his early career in Norfolk. He became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2009 and later completed a Master’s degree in Clinical and Scientific Urology at University College London in 2012. He achieved Fellowship (FRCS Urol) in 2015.
In 2016, Mr Miakhil was appointed Consultant Urological Surgeon at King’s College Hospital. During this period, he undertook advanced training in renal laparoscopy and further developed his expertise in laser prostate surgery, including international training in Germany. He also gained valuable experience in paediatric urology at Great Ormond Street Hospital. After more than a year in London, he returned to Peterborough, where he continues his consultant practice.
Mr Miakhil has a particular clinical interest in laser prostatectomy, including Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP), as well as laparoscopic and open renal surgery. He has performed more than 1,000 HoLEP procedures over the past six years, reflecting a high-volume practice in this specialised technique.
In addition, he has developed particular expertise in BipoLEP (Bipolar enucleation of the prostate), a technique he selectively offers to carefully chosen patients—particularly those at higher risk of bleeding or those taking anticoagulant (blood-thinning) medication—where this approach may provide specific clinical advantages.
His broader practice also encompasses the management of complex kidney stone disease, benign prostatic hyperplasia, and transperineal prostate biopsy for the diagnosis of prostate cancer. He is experienced in managing both benign and malignant urological conditions, delivering personalised, patient-centred care.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Miakhil is actively involved in medical education and undergraduate teaching. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a member of the European Association of Urology. Over the course of his career, he has performed more than 10,000 procedures, reflecting his extensive surgical experience.
