Ms Lana Faraj

Ms Lana Faraj is a consultant ophthalmological surgeon, practising at Newmedica Nottingham and Newmedica Keyworth. She specialises in the cornea, cataract, and external eye diseases.

Dr Faraj qualified with first-class honours from the Sulaimani University College of Medicine before undertaking a master’s degree in molecular diagnostics at the University of Nottingham, which was followed by a PhD in cornea and anterior segment research. She has a further postgraduate diploma from Ulster University in cataract and refractive surgery.

Dr Faraj trained in ophthalmology in the East Midlands, and since becoming a consultant surgeon, has focused her practice on complex cases and premium intraocular lenses, including ocular surface inflammation, dry eye, and corneal infections. She is the lead for the corneal service at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton, and has extensive experience in sight-restoring procedures, such as laser surgery, DMEK, DALK, and corneal collagen crosslinking.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Faraj also partakes in medical research and education, having worked on various publications and conference presentations, for which she has been recognised with awards.
