Dr Leila Asfour

Dr Leila Asfour is a highly accomplished UK-trained consultant dermatologist at the Montrose Clinic in London, with specialist expertise in hair and scalp disorders. She combines her specialist expertise with a patient-centred, evidence-based approach, offering advanced diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of dermatological conditions, with a particular focus on complex hair and scalp disorders.

Dr Asfour's passion for this field began during her time at a regional specialist hair clinic under the guidance of Dr Harries, and she has since pursued advanced international training. She completed a prestigious fellowship in hair and scalp disorders in Australia with Professor R. Sinclair, and was selected for the American Hair Research Society Mentorship Programme, training alongside Associate Professor B. King and Dr B. Craiglow at Yale Dermatology in the United States.

Dr Asfour is an award-winning researcher and educator. She was awarded a British Skin Foundation research grant for her work on chemotherapy-induced alopecia and is a member of the panel revising the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD) Alopecia Areata Guidelines. She has contributed to international research initiatives, including the Global Registry of Alopecia Areata disease Severity and treatment Safety (GRASS) in Australia, and has been a sub-investigator in multiple clinical trials for alopecia areata, atopic dermatitis, and androgenetic alopecia.

Her academic contributions are extensive, with over 30 peer-reviewed publications, numerous book chapters, and an associate editorship at the journal Clinical and Experimental Dermatology. She has presented her research nationally and internationally, earning multiple awards for both her oral and written work.

In medical education, Dr Asfour has played a leading role in shaping training resources and curricula. She authored the ‘Medical Ethics and Law in Clinical Practice and Research’ section for the BAD Registrar Curriculum, updated Health Education England e-learning modules on hair loss, and co-authored a national curriculum on alopecia areata and atopic dermatitis for GPs, trainees, and dermatologists in Australia. She has collaborated with Alopecia UK on patient information materials and treatment blogs, and has organised and chaired numerous educational events for the British Hair and Nail Society (BHNS), including joint sessions with the British Society of Paediatric and Adolescent Dermatology.
