Dr Liam Woods is a fellowship-trained consultant paediatric radiologist with comprehensive expertise in all areas of children’s diagnostic imaging. He currently serves as clinical lead for Paediatric Radiology at Queen Mary’s Hospital for Children in Carshalton and has previously chaired the Radiation Protection Committee. He is also the current clinical director for Radiology at Epsom and St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.
After graduating from St George’s Hospital in London in 2006, he initially trained in general medicine, surgery, and paediatrics, gaining broad clinical experience in acute care for both adult and paediatric patients. He later returned to St George’s to specialise in radiology, achieving his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2013. During this time, he developed a strong interest in paediatric imaging, including rotations at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, and went on to complete a Paediatric Radiology fellowship at King’s College Hospital in 2014.
His professional interests span general and paediatric radiology, with a particular focus on dose optimisation techniques and screening for developmental dysplasia of the hip. He has published research and presented his work internationally at conferences such as the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) and the European Society of Paediatric Radiology (ESPR), as well as nationally at the British Society of Paediatric Radiology (BSPR).
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Woods is actively involved in teaching within the Southwest London radiology training network. He has also led the development of paediatric neurodevelopmental MRI and contrast-enhanced ultrasound services at St Helier Hospital.
