Dr Maddalena Miele-Norton is a highly experienced and dedicated psychiatrist based in London, practising at The Portland Hospital. She specialises in perinatal psychiatry and women’s mental health, with particular expertise in perinatal mental illness, infant mental health and parent-infant relationship difficulties. With over 20 years of experience, she supports women and families facing a wide range of conditions, including postnatal depression, anxiety, mood disorders and complex perinatal presentations.
Dr Miele-Norton graduated in Medicine in 1987 and developed a strong academic and clinical foundation, combining an early background in obstetrics and gynaecology with a DPhil in neuroscience from the University of Oxford. She completed her specialist training in general adult psychiatry at the Maudsley, Bethlem and St Mary’s Hospitals, later obtaining her CCT with an endorsement in liaison psychiatry. She subsequently worked as a consultant in perinatal psychiatry at St Mary’s Hospital, where she also served as trust-wide Perinatal Clinical Lead.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Miele-Norton has made significant contributions to research, education and service development in perinatal mental health. She chaired the North West London Perinatal Mental Health Network and helped shape specialist services and best practice across the region. An accredited infant mental health practitioner, she is also a trainer for the Parent Infant Interaction Observation Scale at Warwick University Medical School. She remains actively involved in teaching and research, with a particular focus on the impact of perinatal mental illness on infant development and the promotion of high standards in clinical care.
