Mr Manu Mathew

Mr Manu Mathew is a UK-trained consultant ophthalmic surgeon specialising in advanced cataract and refractive lens surgery in Chesterfield, Wetherby, Solihull, London, Newcastle, Chelmsford, Dartford, Cambridge, Southampton, Exeter, Bristol and Birmingham. He specialises in advanced cataract surgery, refractive lens surgery and laser vision correction, and privately practices at Alexandra Private Hospital, various AccuVision clinics, Optical Express clinics around the country, and Eagle Eye Care clinic.

Mr Mathew, who has over 36 years of experience and has performed more than 40,000 eye procedures to date, is highly regarded for his expertise in refractive and cataract surgery. His aim is to help patients reduce dependency on glasses, restore clarity and confidence, and provide personalised lens solutions tailored to each patient’s lifestyle. Patients benefit from a fully consultant-led service from initial consultation through to surgery and follow-up care.

He graduated from the University of Madras in 1990 and undertook further postgraduate training at leading UK teaching hospitals, including the Tennent Institute in Glasgow and Queen’s Medical Centre at the University of Nottingham. He later held roles as specialist registrar and clinical lecturer at the University of Nottingham.

He previously served as a consultant ophthalmologist at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where his subspecialty interests included glaucoma, cornea and external eye disease, alongside responsibilities as a specialty doctor tutor.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Mathew is actively involved in teaching and academic activity. He has authored multiple articles in peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals and has presented research papers at professional conferences. He holds an honorary clinical lecturer post at the University of Nottingham and maintains a strong commitment to education and training in ophthalmology.

Mr Mathew is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and several professional organisations, including the United Kingdom Society of Cataract Surgeons and the British Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
