Mr Mark Nowell is a consultant neurosurgeon and spinal surgeon at Nuffield Health Bristol Hospital. He is dual-trained in both neurosurgical and orthopaedic spinal surgery, enabling him to offer comprehensive care across the full spectrum of spinal conditions, including degenerative spinal disease, trauma, tumours, and infection affecting the entire spine.
He trained in medicine at Oriel College, Oxford, and Imperial College School of Medicine, London, graduating with a first-class honours degree in physiological sciences. He subsequently completed a PhD at University College London. His neurosurgical training was completed in Bristol, where he developed a subspecialty focus in spinal surgery. He undertook the prestigious complex spine fellowship at Leeds General Infirmary and the Sir Victor Horsley Spinal Fellowship at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) and the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore.
Mr Nowell has presented at numerous national and international scientific meetings and has published extensively in the field of spinal surgery. In 2017, he was awarded the British Association of Spinal Surgeons (BASS) Travelling Fellowship. He is an active member of BASS and the Society of British Neurological Surgeons (SBNS), and has served as the Spinal Surgery Academic Lead for the SBNS.
