Professor Michael Hanna

Professor Michael Hanna is a distinguished senior consultant neurologist based in London, practising at The Physicians’ Clinic at The Wellington Hospital. He specialises in complex neurological and neuromuscular conditions, with particular expertise in myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy, ALS (motor neuron disease), peripheral neuropathy, multiple sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease. He combines extensive clinical experience with a patient-focused approach, providing expert diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care for adults experiencing a wide range of neurological symptoms, from headaches, dizziness, and blackouts to muscle weakness and fatigue.

He is a leading authority in muscle-wasting neurological diseases and has personally assessed over 50,000 patients throughout his career. Professor Hanna founded the Queen Square Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases and is the Director of the London International Muscle Centre, where he leads a specialist team providing rapid, personalised diagnosis and treatment programmes. His approach integrates advanced testing, including genomics, MRI, neurophysiology and muscle or nerve biopsy, with targeted therapies, immunotherapy, physiotherapy and rehabilitation, supporting patients at every stage of their care.

Alongside his clinical work, Professor Hanna is Director of the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology, which is the largest neurology research institute in the United Kingdom with over 1,200 staff and students, and he is Professor of Clinical Neurology at UCL. He has published over 500 research articles and regularly reviews papers for leading journals including Brain, Journal of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Psychiatry, and Annals of Neurology.
