Dr Naseeb Akhtar

Dr Naseeb Akhtar is a distinguished consultant in clinical neurophysiology who is a leading expert in electrodiagnostic testing, specialising in nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG), electroencephalography (EEG), and intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM).

In addition to his clinical role, Dr Akhtar serves as the director and CEO of HM Medics Ltd, a UK-based healthcare professional services company established in 2012. Dr Akhtar's educational journey began with his graduation in medicine overseas in 1994. He furthered his studies by earning a Master of Medical Sciences degree from the University of Sheffield in 2010. He became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2012 and completed his clinical neurophysiology training in Glasgow by 2017.

To enhance his expertise, he undertook honorary posts at renowned institutions such as Great Ormond Street Hospital and the UCL-National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London in 2016. His exceptional contributions to the field were recognised with fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh in 2018 and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow in 2019.

Dr Akhtar has a strong commitment to education and professional development. He has served as an examiner for final-year medical students at the University of Glasgow since 2015 and has contributed to the teaching of BSc Physiology students at Glasgow Caledonian University. He has also conducted neurophysiology workshops at the University of Edinburgh's Neurological Society undergraduate conference, which received high praise.

His dedication to training has been further demonstrated through his roles as a Training Ambassador and Trainee Representative for NHS Education Scotland, where he advocated for the advancement of neurophysiology training across Scotland. Beyond his clinical and educational roles, Dr Akhtar is actively involved in research and continuous professional development. He has presented cases at prestigious institutions such as Oxford and Cambridge universities and regularly attends national and international courses and conferences.
