Mr Robert Taylor is a consultant ophthalmologist practising at Nuffield Health York Hospital and Spire Hospital Leeds. He specialises in treating strabismus in both adult and paediatric patients, eye muscle disorders, double vision, lazy eye, myopia, hyperopia, and the utilisation of prisms.
Mr Taylor qualified in 1985 from Guy’s Hospital, London University and worked in Birmingham, Sheffield and Leeds before he was appointed as consultant in York in 1996. He has audited results on strabismus surgery over the course of many years, such as consecutive exotropia adult esotropia (divergence weakness), superior oblique weakness and childhood intermittent exotropia, and accommodative esotropia.
In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Taylor has been the Chair of the Examinations Committee for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists from 2016 to 2020, the head examiner for part 2 of the national ophthalmology exit exam and for the Refraction Certificate. He has also been the Chair of the Assessment Committee of the Academy of Royal Medical Colleges and President of the British and Irish Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Association (BIPOSA). As a researcher, he has published dozens of peer-reviewed papers and has made over 150 presentations, both oral and poster, at scientific meetings at regional, national, and international levels, regarding topics such as strabismus refraction accuracy, reading, and maximising visual potential in cataract patients.
