Mr Rono Mukherjee is an experienced consultant urological surgeon based at the Spire Cheshire Hospital, who specialises in treating all common urological problems. This includes male urinary/prostatic symptoms such as Benign Prostate Hyperplasia or BPH, female incontinence and recurrent cystitis/UTIs in women, erectile dysfunction, kidney stones, as well as common penile and scrotal problems.
He is skilled at performing all common urological procedures, penile and scrotal surgery, surgery for BPH including TURP and the renowned minimally invasive UroLift procedure. He is also specialised in minimally invasive surgery to large kidney stones.
Mr Mukherjee also specialises in the diagnosis of important urological cancers including prostate cancer/raised PSA, haematuria, bladder cancer, testicular cancer, and kidney cancers.
A graduate of the University of Glasgow, Mr Mukherjee completed his basic surgical training on the West of Scotland Training rotation, completing his MD thesis in 2005 at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. His higher surgical training was done in Manchester, after which he became a consultant in Blackpool, before moving to Mid Cheshire Hospitals.
He held the position of Clinical Director for Urology at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust between 2012 and 2020, as well as was the urology lead on the BMI South Cheshire Private Hospital Medical Advisory Committee, and is the Director of Urology Cheshire Ltd.
Aside from his practice, Mr Mukherjee is dedicated to both research, having published and presented at a national and international level in the field of urology, and to teaching and training. He is responsible for supervising a number of trainee doctors and currently serves as the Regional Training Programme Director for Urological Surgery in Mersey and Cheshire, and is the chair of the Regional Specialty Training and Education Committee in Urology (STEC).
He was appointed onto the Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) in Urology in 2021, and is a member of the interview panel for National Selection of Specialty Trainees.
Mr Mukherjee has published and presented internationally in the field of urological research, and has been nominated for a number of prizes for his teaching and training roles.
