Dr Shyam Menon

Dr Shyam Menon is a consultant gastroenterologist at The Harborne Hospital. Specialising in hepatobiliary and pancreatic medicine, he has expertise in treating conditions of the liver, bile ducts, and pancreas, as well as performing diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy including procedures such as ERCP, cholangioscopy, and endoscopic ultrasound.

Dr Menon qualified from the University of Kerala in 1999, and completed training in the West Midlands, during which he conducted significant research into the relationship between gender and the development of oesophageal conditions such as Barrett’s oesophagus and oesophageal cancer, which culminated with being awarded an MD from the University of Birmingham in 2010. He has additional postgraduate diplomas in epidemiology from the University of London, and in nutritional medicine from the University of Surrey, and he has a Master's in healthcare leadership from the University of Birmingham. He has received additional advanced training in hepatobiliary endoscopy during a fellowship in Liverpool.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Menon is an active contributor to research and has several published articles regarding hepatobiliary and pancreatic medicine. He is a fellow of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the Royal College of Physicians. He holds a position on the West Midlands Clinical Senate Council, and has served as the Clinical Lead for Gastroenterology at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.
