Dr Sofia Eriksson

Dr Sofia Eriksson is a revered consultant neurologist and honorary associate professor at The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery at Queen Square and University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She also serves as the clinical lead for epilepsy and neurological sleep disorders at the hospital.

In 2019, Dr Eriksson was elected to the council of the Association of British Neurologists (ABN), where she also chairs the epilepsy expert panel. Additionally, she is a member of the European Academy of Neurology’s scientific panel on Sleep-Wake Disorders, reflecting her prominent role in the field. Dr. Eriksson began her medical and research career in Göteborg, Sweden, before joining the Department of Clinical and Experimental Epilepsy (DCEE) at the Institute of Neurology, University College London.

She was awarded her PhD in 2003 and subsequently completed a postdoctoral fellowship with the DCEE before finalising her specialist training in neurology. Her clinical expertise is centered on epilepsy and sleep disorders, areas in which she has cultivated substantial experience and recognition. In the realm of epilepsy, Dr Eriksson offers comprehensive evaluation and treatment across the full spectrum of seizure disorders. This includes first seizure clinics for patients with unexplained episodes of loss of consciousness, as well as the management of refractory epilepsy cases that may be candidates for epilepsy surgery.

Her patient-centred approach ensures tailored diagnostic and therapeutic solutions for a diverse range of epileptic conditions. Dr Eriksson also specialises in neurological sleep disorders, including the assessment and treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness and paroxysmal nocturnal events such as sleepwalking and night terrors. With her dual expertise in epilepsy and sleep medicine, Dr Eriksson is dedicated to improving the quality of life for patients through cutting-edge research and advanced clinical care. Her work underscores a deep commitment to understanding and addressing complex neurological conditions.
