Understanding the P-Shot® for erectile dysfunction
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a common condition in when a man struggles to achieve or maintain an a firm erection throughout the intimate relationship . A new non surgical option of good success is the P‑Shot®, also known as the Priapus Shot. This procedure uses autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP) drawn from the patient’s own blood, with the aim of stimulating neovasculogenesis & new tissue regeneration, thus more specific in improving erectile function. In this article, Dr Nadia Yousri, a sexual health specialist lead and an authorise provider of the P-Shot® in the UK and globally, explains how the P-Shot works and how men can benefit.
What is the P‑Shot®, and how does it work?
Firstly, clinical assessment by a highly experienced Sexual Medicine Lead who is an Authorised Provider to P-Shot®, like Dr Nadia Yoursi, for proper assessment, plan the treatment sessions for the best results without complications
The P‑Shot® involves taking a sample of the patient’s blood, spinning it in a centrifuge to obtain PRP, and then being injected by highly experienced specialist a into targeted areas of the penis. PRP contains growth factors and body healing cells that encourage new blood vessel formation (angiogenesis), enhance collagen production, stimulate tissue repair, and may even improve nerve regeneration.
By promoting healthier tissues and improved circulation, the P‑Shot® is intended to support firmer erections, enhance sensation, and boost sexual confidence.
Who might be suitable for the P‑Shot®?
The procedure may benefit men experiencing:
- Vasculogenic erectile dysfunction, where reduced blood flow limits firmness e.g diabetes or heart diseases or vascular diseases
- Peyronie’s disease, whether in acute or chronic plaque phase-curvature
- Reduced sensitivity, decreased stamina, or premature ejaculation
P-Shot® can achieve around 70% success rate in properly selected cases of ED in general and possibly higher success rate in those of vascular-related ED.
It is important to mention that the variation in success rate is due to the individual variation in the causes of ED, age, duration of the problem and more importantly the degree of body response to regeneration stimulus.
Dr Nadia Yousri (Dr NY), advice is to complete the standard treatment course of three sessions at four to six weeks apart. After completing this course by three months, Dr NY arranges for follow up- evaluation assessment to determine the degree of improvement and whether there is a need for repeat sessions or combo therapy with Shockwave Therapy or recommends other options.
What happens during a P‑Shot® session?
A typical session unfolds as follows:
- A consultation which includes medical history review with full clinical assessment to determine suitability and likelihood of intended benefits
- Application of local anaesthetic cream to minimise discomfort
- A small blood sample is drawn and centrifuged to obtain the PRP that will be injected in a highly specialised technique by Dr NY
The whole process typically takes around 45 to 60 minutes, with patients able to return home the same day. There is no downtime.
Post-procedure results
Most men find the procedure tolerable with minimal or no pain. Uncommonly, minimal bruise or a swelling that would disappear within few days temporary.
Initial improvements may be noticed within a few weeks, with full benefits taking up to six months, depending on individual response. Reported benefits include:
- Stronger, firmer erections
- Improved stamina and sexual confidence
- Enhanced sensation and penile length or girth, possibly due to neovascularisation and tissue regeneration.
Results typically last up to 12 months depending on the initial cause, the good body response. On the other hand, some men may need to have a “top up” session every six to nine months to maintain the good results.
How much does a P-Shot® cost?
Dr Nadia Yousri is an authorised provider of the P-Shot® and a lead specialist in sexual medicine, in her clinic in Central London, and the fee for P-shot® starts from £1350 per session.
Should I get the P-Shot®?
The P‑Shot® offers a minimally invasive, autologous treatment aimed at improving erectile function by enhancing tissue repair, circulation, and sensation. It can be offered to all men with erectile dysfunction but only after assessment to determine the number of sessions required to deal with the cause of ED. The only unmeasurable factor is the individual body response to the call of regeneration. About 30% of men could be “poor responders” even after completing the standard course of three sessions. This has nothing to do with the P-Shot® itself as an option they agreed to try and see.
