
Mr Abdul Rahman Hakeem

Dr Abdul Rahman Hakeem serves as a highly respected consultant in hepatobiliary and liver transplant surgery in London.
Trained extensively in hepatopancreatobiliary (HPB) surgery and transplantation of the liver, kidneys, pancreas, and small bowel in Leeds and Cambridge, he further honed his expertise in a high-volume adult and paediatric living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) programme under Professor Mohamed Rela in Chennai, India. In 2018, Dr Hakeem earned a PhD from the University of Leeds for groundbreaking research on human liver bioengineering. He was previously an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Leeds.
An avid academic, he has authored over 100 publications and is actively involved in research as a co-investigator on an NIHR RfPB grant focused on liver resection. He also contributes as an editor and reviewer for several transplant and HPB journals. As a co-director for Liver Research Culture and Events within the Leeds Liver Research Collaborative (LRC) and an active member of the UK Liver Transplant Collaborative (UKLTRC), he remains at the forefront of advancing surgical and transplant medicine.
Dr Hakeem’s contributions have been recognised through numerous awards, including the Young Investigator Award from the European Society of Organ Transplantation (ESOT) in 2017, the Liver Transplant Society of India (LTSICON) award in 2019, and an honour from the International Liver Transplantation Society (ILTS) in 2022.
His numerous surgical scholarships include the Chief Resident MBA from The Cambridge Judge Business School in 2017, ESOT Study and Educational scholarships in 2017 and 2018, and the Surgical Education Research Fellowship (SERF) from the American Association for Surgical Education in 2012. Dr Hakeem’s clinical and research interests span liver reengineering, transplant oncology, machine perfusion technologies, portal flow modulation in LDLT, pediatric liver transplantation outcomes, and conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses in surgical practices.
