Mr Ahmed Kamel

Mr Ahmed Kamel is a highly esteemed holistic consultant gynaecologist in Croydon, south London, who specialises in pelvic pain, heavy periods, fibroids, abnormal smear tests and menopause with extensive expertise in applying evidence based tailored various treatment modalities including medical and surgical options as laproscopy, myomectomy and hysterectomy. Mr Kamel privately practises at Shirley Oaks Hospital - part of Circle Health Group, and is the lead clinician for vulval specialist services and minimal access surgeon at Croydon University Hospital, Croydon Health Services NHS Trust.

Mr Kamel graduated with distinction from medical school in Cairo in 1997 before relocating to the UK in 2005. He gained extensive clinical and surgical experience by rotating through premier hospitals in the London and East of England deaneries. He's a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and holds a Master’s degree in the specialty. 

Mr Kamel is renowned for his compassionate, patient-centred approach and his exceptional communication skills enabling opening constructive dialogues with his patients, ensuring they thoroughly understand their diagnosis and the available treatment options. Mr Kamel’s clinical philosophy prioritises patient safety and holistic wellbeing, ensuring any invasive intervention is reserved when there is clear advantage over medical and/or conservative management.

Mr Kamel's key area of practise is minimal access surgery, also known as keyhole surgery. By utilising advanced laparoscopic techniques, he performs complex procedures such as ovarian cystectomy, endometriosis treatment, myomectomy (removal of fibroids) or hysterectomy (removal of womb) maximising patient safety, reducing recovery times and hospital stays. He is also an expert in operative hysteroscopy, providing procedures for  polypectomy(polyp removals), fibroid/septum/adhesions resection and insertion/removal of intrauterine devices.

In addition to general gynaecology, Mr Kamel has a distinguished reputation in the field of vulval disease and colposcopy. He established and currently leads the specialist vulval service at Croydon University Hospital and extended his practice to private sector. He is widely well known for his expertise in diagnosis and management of various vulval conditions including vulvodynia (vulval pain), vulval lichen sclerosus, , removal of vulval lesions or adhesions or genital warts as well as treating persistent infections. His expertise in this niche area has led to numerous invitations to speak at national and international conferences, and he remains an active member of the British Society for the Study of Vulval Disease (BSSVD) and the International Society for the Study of Vulval Disease (ISSVD).

Outside of his clinical work, Mr Kamel is involved in research and the education of both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
