Professional statement
Dr Aleksandra Matakovic Manca is a holistic doctor, guide and mentor in Totnes who specialises in paediatric psychiatry, personalised medicine, and psychotherapy, alongside coaching (personal development), emotional control and complex PTSD. She practises privately offering both face-to-face sessions and e-Consultations.
Who I am, and how I work
I work at the intersection of medicine, psychotherapy, and soul — a place where clinical depth meets intuitive wisdom, where the body holds the story, and where healing happens through connection, not fixing.
With over two decades as a psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and integrative medical doctor — and now working as a coach, mentor and guide, outside of the medical system — I've learned that we don't heal in isolation or through willpower alone. We heal when we're met — when someone can hold space for all of us: the trauma and the brilliance, the grief and the longing, the parts we've exiled and the wisdom we've forgotten.
I don't work from a manual. I work from presence. I listen with my whole being — to your words, your body, your energy, and what's unspoken. I feel into what's beneath the surface, sensing what wants to emerge. Some call it empathy; I call it deep listening and heart based medicine. It's how I've always worked, and it's what allows transformation to unfold organically, not forcefully.
What happens in our work together:
You'll feel seen — not through a diagnostic lens, but as a whole, unique being. I'll help you come home to your body, reconnect to your intuition, and remember the innate capacity to heal that lives inside you. We'll work with what's present: your story, your symptoms, your dreams, your creativity, your resistance, your longing. Nothing is off limits. Everything is welcome.
Throughout, you'll be held — with a holistic perspective that sees all of you, and with guidance and support that is responsive, compassionate, and always in service of your own unfolding.
I bridge heart and mind, blending my knowledge and experience with somatic awareness, systemic understanding with spiritual insight. I'm as comfortable discussing neurobiology as I am sitting in silence, tracking energy, or inviting your creative expression into the room. My approach is personalised, trauma-informed, neuro-developmentally grounded, and deeply relational. And yes — it's also intuitive, embodied, and sometimes mystical.
This work is for you if:
- You're drawn to healing that honours and empowers all of you — body, mind, soul, and spirit
- You sense there's something deeper beneath your symptoms or struggles, and you want someone who can meet you there
- You're tired of being reduced to a diagnosis or a problem to fix
- You're a parent seeking to understand and support your child as a whole being—beyond diagnosis or labels—to discover what they (and you) truly need to thrive
- You long for a guide who's walked their own journey of losing and finding themselves
- You value creativity, intuition, nature, and the unseen dimensions of life
- You're committed to your own healing journey and growth, ready to be held accountable with compassion
- You want to work with someone who sees your potential, not just your pain
This work is not for you if:
- You are seeking a diagnostic assessment or support through medication
- You prefer a purely clinical, protocol-driven approach
- You're uncomfortable with spirituality, embodiment, or working with energy
- You're not ready to slow down, feel, and be with what arises
- You want someone to tell you what to do rather than help you connect with your own wisdom

- I contacted Dr Matakovic Manca after years of accumulated stress, different kinds of anxiety, and inner discomfort I could no longer manage alone. She was extremely empathetic, caring, and always listened. She helped me look inside myself and find tools to get through this period. After each session, the “heavy burden” I carried became lighter. She also helped me handle unbearable work-related stress. She was fundamental in this phase, and I feel truly lucky to have been followed by a dr like her

- Kind and sympathetic, very attentive to the medical records and deep listening to the issues presented. We feel supported and safe as Aleksandra demonstrates knowledge and professionalism in the advice she gives.
- Dr Aleks held the time I spent with her beautifully. I was a river breaching my banks. Guiding me back into the room to focus on myself. So valuable to be asked if I wanted to know what Dr Aleks thought. I did. Advice on what to do in real-time and aftercare, all unsurpassed.
- When I first met Alexandra I was reeling from previous negative experiences of psychiatry. Her friendly, warm, compassionately curious, deeply human approach, and delight in her work, has supported me in moving forward to embrace a richer and more meaningful life.
