Mr Alex Baker is a highly skilled consultant orthopaedic surgeon with practice in Blackburn and Blackpool who specialises in all aspects of spinal surgery. With a holistic approach to surgery, Mr Baker is renowned for his expertise in discectomy procedures and the treatment and management of sciatica, spinal stenosis, and neck and back pain. Mr Baker originally qualified from The University of Edinburgh in 1999 before going on to complete six years of surgical training on the prestigious South East Scotland rotation, working in the Edinburgh Trauma Unit and the Scottish National Paediatric Spinal Deformities Centre. He became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2002 and obtained an MSc in Applied Biomechanics from the University of Strathclyde in 2005.
Having become a fellow of the RCOS in 2009, Mr Baker later went on to accomplish two distinguished fellowships: an orthopaedic surgery travelling fellowship from the Edinburgh Orthopaedic Club of North America and a spinal surgery fellowship in Newcastle, where he acquired proficiency in deformity, spinal tumour, anterior and cervical spine surgery.
Further to his clinical practice, Mr Baker is an honorary senior lecturer at the University of Manchester and a tutor for MSc Surgical Sciences at the University of Edinburgh. He is also a GMC-recognised trainer and a member of various professional organisations, including the British Association of Spinal Surgeons and the Royal Medical Society.
