Mr Andrew Cattell

Mr Andrew Cattell is a specialist knee surgeon with extensive experience in managing a wide range of knee conditions, including ACL reconstruction, multiligament surgery, osteotomy, partial and total knee replacement, patellofemoral replacement, meniscal surgery and patellofemoral pain syndrome. He privately practises at Nuffield Health Tees Hospital and Woodlands Hospital, while his NHS base is North Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Cattell completed his undergraduate medical degree at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa in 1999. He later went on to achieve an MSc in orthopaedic engineering at Cardiff University, which supports his evidence-based approach to joint preservation and surgical planning. He obtained his FRCS (Orth) from the Royal College of Surgeons in 2016 and has also completed an MBA, reflecting his broader interest in healthcare delivery and system improvement.

Mr Cattell focuses solely on knee surgery, allowing for a high degree of specialisation. He performs complex ligament reconstruction procedures, joint preservation surgery such as osteotomy, and all types of knee replacement, including partial and patellofemoral options. He aims to provide tailored treatment plans for each patient, taking into account individual activity levels, goals and long-term outcomes. His approach ensures that patients are fully informed about their options and involved in decision-making at every stage.

Mr Cattell is an active member of the British Orthopaedic Association and the European Society for Sports Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy. These affiliations keep him up to date with the latest advancements and surgical techniques in knee surgery, which he integrates into his practice to offer the highest standard of care.

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Cattell is committed to medical education and training. He served as the educational lead for orthopaedics at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (2019 - 2024), he plays a key role in developing future orthopaedic surgeons. He regularly contributes to postgraduate teaching and is involved in mentoring trainees through complex cases, and has been awarded the North Deanery Orthopaedic trainer of the year (2024).
