His clinical interests centre on the accurate, non-invasive assessment of cardiac symptoms, and the evaluation of cardiac dysfunction using echocardiography and CMR.


Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Elkington is actively involved in education and service development. He is a cardiology tutor at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, responsible for the training of junior doctors, and training lead for physician associates. He is co-director of the FICE echocardiography course for intensive care physicians and lectures regularly to GPs on general cardiology. He also serves on the departmental accreditation committee of the British Society of Echocardiography and inspects echocardiography departments seeking national accreditation.


Dr Elkington is a member of the British Cardiovascular Society, the British Society of Echocardiography and the British Society of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. He is frequently invited to speak at regional and national meetings, reviews manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and provides ECG reporting services for wellness centres across southern England.
