Dr Anil Kumar Taneja is a highly experienced consultant cardiologist with particular expertise in heart failure, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias and advanced cardiac imaging, including echocardiography, cardiac CT and CT coronary angiography, cardiac MRI and nuclear cardiology. He combines more than 15 years of consultant-level experience with a strong academic, research and clinical leadership background.
He practises at a host of hospitals in London, including The Spire London East and Spire Thames Valley Private Hospitals, the Clementine Churchill Hospital (Circle Group) in Harrow and his main practice is at Nuffield, The Holly Private Hospital in East London. He also works with NHS hospitals (Barts NHS Trust – Whipps Cross University Hospital). Soon, his services will be available at Spire Bushey and Spire Reading/Dunedin.
Currently, Dr Taneja continues to work in cardiology through NHS and private cardiology clinics, following a long substantive consultant career at Barts Health NHS Trust and honorary work with Royal Brompton and Harefield.
Dr Taneja has held senior roles including Clinical Governance Lead for Cardiology, Lead for Cardiology Research, Educational Lead for Cardiology and Regional Specialty Adviser for Cardiology. He has also received multiple Clinical Excellence Awards, with eight awards recorded across his consultant career, including in 2024.
Academically, he completed an MSc in Cardiology with Distinction at Imperial College London and an MD in cardiovascular medicine, with research particularly focused on heart failure and cardiovascular biomarkers. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and Edinburgh, and a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology.
Dr Taneja has contributed to major national and international cardiovascular research programmes, including SENIORS, ACTIVE, CHARISMA, PRAIS-UK and PROMIS-UK, and has published extensively in peer-reviewed medical journals. He has also served as an MRCP PACES examiner and has reviewed manuscripts for leading journals including the European Heart Journal, JACC, Circulation, Heart, BMJ and the New England Journal of Medicine.
His broad expertise allows him to provide a comprehensive approach to patients presenting with chest pain, shortness of breath, palpitations, atrial fibrillation, heart failure and suspected coronary artery disease, using advanced cardiac investigation where appropriate to support accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment.

- I can’t recommend Dr Taneja highly enough. I initially saw him with chest pain and he went above and beyond to thoroughly check my heart. When the tests didn’t explain my symptoms, he continued investigating and discovered the issue was actually in my lungs — a PE. Although this wasn’t the outcome I wanted, I may never have known without him. He was incredibly supportive, thorough and accommodating. I’m extremely grateful and highly recommend him.
