Mr Ashwin Kulkarni

Mr Ashwin Kulkarni is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon based in Leicester, with expertise in Minimally invasive SuperPath® hip replacement surgery, Robotic-assisted Mako surgery, hip replacement and knee replacement, alongside hip arthroscopy and knee arthroscopy. He privately practices at Nuffield Health Leicester Hospital, while his NHS base is University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.

He has over three decades of surgical experience and has worked in several leading centres including Birmingham and internationally in Toronto and Ontario, Canada and Mumbai. He has developed particular expertise in managing hip conditions in both younger and older patients, offering procedures such as SuperPath® minimally invasive hip replacement, standard hip replacement, hip resurfacing and hip arthroscopy for impingement syndrome. He also treats patients with knee problems, offering knee replacement and knee arthroscopy for soft tissue conditions. Mr Kulkarni uses the Mako SmartRobotics™ system for hip and knee replacement procedures, allowing for highly accurate implantation and soft tissue balancing. This approach can lead to faster recovery times and improved functional outcomes. He also has a subspecialist interest in trauma surgery.

In addition to his clinical practice, Mr Kulkarni is committed to education and training. He serves as the national lead for the United Kingdom and Ireland In-Training Exam (UKITE). He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds multiple postgraduate qualifications including FRCS (Tr&Orth), D (Ortho) and DNB (Ortho).

Mr Kulkarni is a member of several professional bodies, including the British Orthopaedic Association and the British Hip Society.
