Professional statement
Ms Avril Chang is a prominent London-based consultant upper gastrointestinal and general surgeon specialising in upper gastrointestinal surgery. From her private clinics across London, Ms Chang provides excellent treatments for gallstones, hernias, gastro-oesophageal reflux along with many other treatments.
Trained and educated in Australia, Ms Chang undertook specialist senior surgical training in Leeds and London before being appointed to King's College Hospital in London in 2006 where she continues to serve. Alongside her practice, Ms Chang is also heavily involved with tutoring junior surgeons on minimally invasive surgical techniques and is training programme director for general surgery. She has a specialised focus on gallstone diseases and has successfully performed thousands of keyhole surgeries to remove the gallbladder.
Her expertise extends to managing patients with challenging or high-risk gallbladder conditions, enabling them to undergo keyhole surgery safely, including cases involving bile duct stones. In addition to her proficiency in gallbladder surgery, she has extensive experience in repairing various types of hernias, such as umbilical, inguinal, and femoral hernias.
She works closely with patients to determine the most suitable approach to hernia repair, considering different surgical techniques and the potential use of meshes. A comprehensive approach underpins her practice, as she meticulously evaluates each patient's medical and surgical history to devise tailored management plans. This is particularly vital for more complex cases, such as large para-oesophageal hernias and complicated incisional hernias, where careful deliberation may lead to the decision that no further surgery is the best option.

- If I could leave 10⭐️ reviews then I would. As a very anxious patient Miss Chang reassured me, filled me with confidence & explained everything in full. I was never rushed in appointments, was able to ask as many (and there were a LOT) of questions. 100% recommend
