Mr Awaiz Ahmed is a highly proficient and experienced consultant spinal surgeon who specialises in spinal surgery, minimally invasive spinal surgery, lumbar facet joint replacements, sciatica, neck and back pain, as well as degenerative disc disease. He privately practises at Shirley Oaks Hospital, Spire St Anthony's Hospital, North Downs Hospital, The Lister Hospital - part of HCA Healthcare and The Harley Street Clinic, based in central London and in southwest London.
Mr Ahmed, whose main research interests include lumbar facet replacements, spinal surgery in obese patients, and vertebral body augmentation for spinal fractures, successfully completed an MBBS in India in 1997, during which he was awarded the Gold Medal in general surgery and orthopaedics. Following this he undertook his basic surgical and specialist trauma and orthopaedic training with Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.
Mr Ahmed successfully undertook two advanced spinal fellowships at the University Hospital Southampton and the Stoke Mandeville Hospital. He was appointed as Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedics with a special interest in spinal surgery in 2017 in the NHS. Mr Ahmed, who has published extensively in the medical field to-date, possesses a whole host of clinical interests, which include neck and back pain, cervical disc replacements, laser disc surgery, focal spinal fusion, as well as spinal decompression and endoscopic spinal surgery.
Mr Ahmed is extensively involved in teaching having been the educational lead in his department and was awarded the Miller best trainer award in 2020.He is faculty member for the FRCS exam courses. He has a keen interest in sports injuries to the lower back being a keen cricketer himself. He has been and is involved in humanitarian medical missions as required.
