Dr Ben Mercer is a leading consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist who specialises in atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia and ectopic beats, alongside cardiac arrhythmia, pacemaker therapy and defibrillation therapy. He privately practises at Spire Leeds Hospital while his NHS base is Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Dr Mercer has an impressive educational background, having been awarded an MBChB and PhD from the University of Leeds and an MRCP from the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh respectively.
He has undergone extensive specialist training in the management of arrhythmia in the west Yorkshire region, and as part of his PhD studies, he completed an extensive period of dedicated research in vascular biology and the effects of diabetes on blood vessel repair.
Dr Mercer, who also specialises in the use of catheter ablation as well as pacemaker therapy to manage cardiology conditions he has expertise in, takes great satisfaction in working with patients to find the best-tailored solution for all heart rhythm problems.
He has continued to be involved in research relating to heart rhythm disturbance and management, and more recently he has published research on atrial fibrillation, and other cardiology topics, in leading peer-reviewed journals. Dr Mercer is also a member of the British Heart Rhythm Society.
