Dr Bhupinder Singh Sihra

Dr Sihra is a leading specialist in allergies (paediatric and adult) and paediatric respiratory medicine based in the East of England in Essex. He was an NHS hospital consultant (in paediatrics: allergy and respiratory medicine) at Colchester Hospital from 1999 until 2025, before retiring from the NHS after completing 40 years of service. In addition, he was an honorary consultant in paediatric allergy for the Evelina Children’s Hospital from 2000 to 2016.

His clinics are now based at two CQC registered sites in Colchester – the Ramsay Oaks Hospital, where he has been on the consultant staff since 2000, and the Wellbeing Clinic (Essex), where he sees any paediatric patients. He also provides video consultations for patients living farther afield than Essex who may find it inconvenient to travel over to see him in his Colchester clinics. For several years before leaving the NHS in 2025, he was NHS East of England’s Regional Lead for Asthma in Children and Young Persons.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine (BM) from Southampton University Medical School in 1984 and went on to train in paediatrics from 1985 onwards at several well-known UK teaching hospitals (including Southampton, Guys and St Thomas's, St George's, the Royal Brompton and King’s College Hospitals). He passed his Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom (MRCP) exam in 1989. Between 1993 to 1997, he did clinical research at the world renowned Dept of Allergy & Clinical Immunology, Imperial College, London and published several papers on asthma and allergy. He was awarded a Doctor of Medicine (DM: medical equivalent to a PhD) from Southampton University for his thesis based on his research in allergic disorders. During his research period he ran regular adult allergy clinics at the Royal Brompton Hospital before completing his higher specialist training in paediatric respiratory medicine (which included experience in paediatric allergy) in 1999 at King’s College Hospital, London. 

Dr Sihra helped set up the Paediatric Allergy Network of East Anglia (which he co-chaired for many years) and sits on the British Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology’s national Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity Committee. He is also an active member of both the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology and the European Respiratory Society. He was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH) in 2001.
