Mr Don Williams FAAO FCOptom is an Advanced Clinical Practitioner in Ophthalmology and a GOC-registered Specialist with extensive experience in advanced eye care, particularly glaucoma, ocular hypertension, ophthalmic laser procedures and complex diagnostic assessment.
He holds the rare distinction of professional Fellowship in both the United Kingdom and the United States. He is a Fellow of the College, UK (FCOptom) and was conferred as a Fellow of the American Academy (FAAO) in October 2026.
This dual transatlantic Fellowship represents distinguished professional recognition on both sides of the Atlantic.
Mr Williams has extensive experience in hospital ophthalmology and glaucoma care and is Director of Edgbaston Eye Clinic in Birmingham. His clinical interests include glaucoma and ocular hypertension, dry eye disease, keratoconus, medical retina and ophthalmic laser procedures including selective laser trabeculoplasty and Nd:YAG laser capsulotomy.
His postgraduate qualifications include advanced study in glaucoma, refractive and cataract surgery, medical retina and independent prescribing, together with two master’s degrees. He is currently completing an MA in Artificial Intelligence at the University of Southampton, with a particular interest in the safe and responsible application of AI in clinical eye care.
