Mr Ed Casswell

Mr Ed Casswell is a consultant ophthalmologist and ophthalmic surgeon in Brighton, Worthing and Chichester. He specialises in routine cataract surgery, complex cataract surgery including intraocular lens exchange and secondary intraocular lenses, and medical retina conditions including macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, alongside surgical retina conditions including retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, macula hole repair and floaterectomy.

He privately practises at Nuffield Health Brighton Hospital, Goring Hall Hospital (part of Circle Health Group), St Richard's Hospital Private Patients Unit and Sussex Eye Hospital Private Patients Unit. His NHS base is University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Casswell graduated from University College London Medical School in 2010 and completed his ophthalmic training in North London, including five years at Moorfields Eye Hospital. He completed two advanced retinal surgery fellowships and a six-month fellowship in medical retinal disease at Moorfields.

Mr Casswell completed an MD research degree at University College London in 2020 and maintains an active research interest in retinal eye disease. He has published over 35 peer-reviewed publications.

Mr Casswell has received over 40 academic awards during his career, including the University of London Gold Medal (2010), the FRCOphth Crombie Gold Medal (2013) and the Harcourt Gold Medal (2017).

Mr Casswell is a member of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (MRCOphth, FRCOphth) and the British and Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons (BEAVRS).
