Mr Gianluca Lucchese

Mr Gianluca Lucchese is a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon based in central London, specialising in minimally-invasive cardiac surgery, valve repair and replacement and complex aortic surgery. He also has expertise in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), coronary artery bypass graft, atrial fibrillation surgery and grown-up congenital heart disease (GUCH). Mr Lucchese sees private patients exclusively at the Cleveland Clinic London Hospital as well as NHS patients at St. Thomas' Hospital.

He regularly performs complex cardiac procedures and has honed his skills in complex aortic surgery and mitral and aortic valve repair with particular interest in the valve-sparing aortic root replacement. His consistency in these operations, alongside minimally-invasive valvular surgery and TAVI, have earned him an esteemed surgical reputation. 

Mr Lucchese is highly qualified, graduating from and receiving certification from the European Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Siena's medical school in Tuscany, Italy. He also has a PhD in Cardiovascular Sciences from the University of Verona in Italy. His cardiac surgery training, completed in the UK and Italy, includes congenital cardiac disease, transplantation and mechanical circulatory support.  

Mr Lucchese is also actively involved in clinical research, concentrating on areas including biochemical pathways of myocardial hypertrophy and myocardial protection and the hemodynamic properties of the aortic root. His work has also been published in various peer-reviewed publications.
