Mr Haider Jan is a consultant gynaecologist and minimally invasive surgeon specialising in robotic and keyhole surgery for endometriosis, fibroids and conditions that affect fertility. He sees patients at Spire St Anthony's Hospital in Sutton, Nuffield Health Parkside Hospital in Wimbledon, Ashtead Hospital and the CRP Clinic in Epsom, and by video. He has been a consultant since 2013 and leads the BSGE-accredited Endometriosis Centre at Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust, where he has also been lead for gynaecology, clinical director and divisional medical director. He is an honorary consultant at King's Fertility.
Most of Mr Jan's operating is robotic (da Vinci) or laparoscopic keyhole surgery, which for most women means less pain and a quicker recovery than open surgery. He has carried out more than 2,000 keyhole operations, and his robotic operating lists run at Spire St Anthony's and Nuffield Health Parkside. Many women see him after being told that their operation needs a large open incision, or that their condition cannot be operated on, and he offers second opinions on scans and treatment plans.
His practice includes:
- endometriosis at every stage, including deep disease affecting the bowel, bladder and ureters, removed by excision, with colorectal surgeons when needed
- fibroids, including robotic myomectomy for large and complex fibroids, and adenomyosis
- hysterectomy by robotic or laparoscopic surgery
- conditions of the womb that affect fertility and pregnancy, including Asherman's syndrome, uterine septum, polyps, fibroids and caesarean scar niche, with more than 150 hysteroscopic procedures a year, most as day cases
- structural causes of recurrent miscarriage and failed embryo transfers, and surgery before IVF, including for hydrosalpinx
- ovarian cysts, including endometriomas and dermoid cysts, removed by keyhole surgery while protecting the ovary wherever possible
- heavy or painful periods, pelvic pain, bleeding after the menopause, PMS and PMDD, and menopause and HRT
- complex prolapse surgery, including sacrocolpopexy, sacrohysteropexy and hysterectomy with uterosacral ligament suspension, as well as anterior and posterior vaginal repair
At the CRP Clinic in Epsom, which works with King's Fertility as a satellite clinic, he also provides IVF and egg freezing.
Mr Jan sets out every reasonable option, including no treatment, sees his patients at every stage of their care, and sends a detailed letter after each appointment, usually within 30 minutes. At Parkside and the CRP Clinic, he performs the ultrasound scan himself during the consultation. Consultations are available in English or Arabic.
He graduated from St George's Hospital Medical School (BSc 2002, MBBS 2003) and became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2009. He trained at St George's, King's College Hospital, the Royal Marsden and the Royal Surrey County Hospital, where he completed a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery. He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers, received the AAGL's Carlo Romanini Award for research in endometriosis, and trains surgeons in robotic and laparoscopic surgery.
Outside work, he enjoys padel, running and trail running, and spending time with his family.
