Mr Hooman Soleymani Majd

Mr Hooman Soleymani Majd is a leading consultant gynaecological oncology surgeon based in Oxford. He is an expert in minimally invasive procedures, colposcopy and laparoscopy, and also specialises in the treatment of ovarian cancer, placenta accreta spectrum and other gynaecological pathologies.

Mr Soleymani Majd qualified in medicine in 2000, before relocating to London to specialise in obstetrics and gynaecology. He later moved to Oxford, where he completed his postgraduate training programme for which he was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training, and obtained membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. Following this, Mr Soleymani Majd undertook a further three years of sub-specialist training in gynaecological oncology while based at Oxford’s Churchill Cancer Centre, where he is currently of the complex pelvic (exenterative) surgery and sarcoma team. He has held the position of consultant in gynaecological oncology at the Churchill Hospital since 2016 and is also a British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology-accredited colposcopist and trainer. He sees private patients at Gynaecology Care Oxford. He is a member of several societies regarding gynaecological cancer and conditions, such as the British Gynaecological Cancer Society (BGCS), the International Society for Placenta Accreta Spectrum (IS-PAS), and the European Society of Gynaecological Oncology (ESGO). He is an expert in ultra-radical surgery for advanced ovarian cancer, employing techniques such as upper abdominal surgery, liver mobilisation, and diaphragmatic reconstruction.

Mr Soleymani Majd is a leading name in medical education and is involved in teaching medical trainees, registrars and fellows at Oxford University. He is also a Visiting Professor at Guangxi Medical University Cancer Hospital in Nanning, China. He is the co-editor of a new Oxford Surgical Handbook, which is soon to be published by Oxford University Press. He has contributed to book chapters and has been published in acclaimed, peer-reviewed journals, as well as serving on editorial boards for four international journals such as European Journal of Gynaecology Oncology and Journal of Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Cancer Research; additionally, he has been appointed Associated Editor-in-Chief of Translational Cancer Research. Recently, he has commissioned a series of high-impact articles on the subject of ‘Evolutions in the Management of Advanced Ovarian Cancer for Gynaecology and Pelvic Medicine. He has been invited to speak at various international congresses and seminars. He holds the position of honorary senior clinical lecturer in gynaecological oncology surgery at the University of Oxford.

Mr Soleymani Majd continues to be actively involved in research, in particular as part of an Oxford-based research group with a special interest in new developments in surgical techniques in ultra-radical surgery for advanced ovarian cancer. He is a passionate advocate for bespoke cancer care within gynaecological oncology, anchoring his practice in the integration of genomic profiling, molecular diagnostics, and biomarker-driven treatment strategies to design treatment to each patient’s individual circumstances. Incorporating the newest innovations in medicinal approaches into routine care, such as targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and fertility-preserving interventions, o routine care, ensures that each patient is treated according to the latest advancements in research and international best practices.
