Mr Igor Occhipinti

Mr Igor Occhipinti is a distinguished consultant ophthalmologist based in Southampton, where he practises at Optical Express. He specialises in laser eye surgery and cataract surgery, with particular expertise in lens replacement procedures. He is a senior cataract surgeon and expert in glaucoma treatment, and he has enabled thousands of patients to achieve excellent visual outcomes and reduce dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

Mr Occhipinti completed his medical degree at Sapienza Università di Roma in 1997 before specialising in ophthalmology at the University of L’Aquila. His early career included extensive clinical training and practice across Italy and Belgium, notably at the Ospedale Oftalmico di Roma, where he developed strong expertise in corneal transplants, cataract and refractive surgery. He later held consultant roles at leading institutions in Italy, further refining his surgical skills and clinical knowledge.

Since moving to the UK, Mr Occhipinti has held senior roles including consultant ophthalmologist at Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and has undertaken a fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. He has also worked as a consultant at Lincoln County Hospital and was a Clinical Lead at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells Hospital. He has performed over 12,000 eye surgeries, and more than 8,000 lens procedures. He is also a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the Italian Ophthalmologists Association.
