Dr Israa Al-Shakarchi

Dr Israa Al-Shakarchi is a highly experienced Consultant Rheumatologist with over a decade of consultant-level expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide range of rheumatological conditions. She is known for her patient-centred approach, clear communication, and commitment to personalised, evidence-based care.

Her clinical expertise covers all aspects of general rheumatology, including inflammatory arthritis, crystal arthritis, connective tissue diseases, vasculitis, inflammatory muscle diseases, osteoporosis, and soft tissue conditions. She also has specialist skills in joint and soft tissue injections, having led the injection clinic at Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for several years.

Dr Al-Shakarchi completed her medical degree at the University of Wales College of Medicine in 2004 and holds a BSc (Hons) in Physiology from University College London. She was awarded a Master's degree in Rheumatology with distinction from King’s College London in 2010, where she received the prize for best research project. She has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at international conferences.

She undertook her specialist training in leading London teaching hospitals, including King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’, and St George’s. In 2014, she was appointed as a substantive NHS Consultant Rheumatologist at Kingston Hospital. In addition to her clinical work, she has held several senior roles in medical education, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2018.

Dr Al-Shakarchi is passionate about working in partnership with her patients, taking time to understand their concerns, and providing clear explanations and tailored treatment plans. She consistently receives excellent patient feedback for her compassionate and thorough approach.
