Ms Jajini Varghese is a leading, UK trained consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon based in London with over 15 years’ experience. She is uniquely dual qualified in both plastic surgery and breast oncology surgery and therefore specialises in all surgeries of the breast and body. This includes mastectomy and immediate breast reconstruction for breast cancer, breast reduction, liposuction and fat transfer and breast augmentation procedures. When possible, she offers breast conserving options using surgical techniques such as therapeutic mammoplasty and chest wall perforator flaps for reconstruction. She can also provide thorough risk assessment methods for breast cancer, including genetic testing and personalised preventative and detection strategies.
Ms Varghese consults privately at The London Breast Institute at HCA UK Women’s Health Centre. She also has an NHS practice at the Royal Free London NHS Trust and is an Associate Professor at UCL. She undertook her surgical training on the prestigious London based Pan-Thames rotation, and worked at some of the busiest teaching hospitals, notably St Bartholomew’s Hospital, Royal Free Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, and Great Ormond Street Hospital. She is also a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and a member of various professional organisations, including the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons and the Association of Breast Surgeons.
As a recognised expert, Ms Varghese is also one of the few specialists in the UK to have been awarded a full Cambridge Commonwealth scholarship to the University of Cambridge to complete an MPhil and a PhD in the genetic epidemiology of breast cancer. This investigation, which led to the identification of the genetic determinant ZNF 365 gene in collaboration with Harvard University and the Mayo Clinic, was published in high-impact academic journals such as Nature Genetics.
With a patient-centred approach to breast surgery, Ms Varghese is passionate about the use of plastic surgical techniques to enhance cosmetic outcomes following breast cancer treatment. As an Associate Professor at University College London, she is actively involved in research and training as a supervisor and examiner for both MSc and PhD courses, and is also the current specialty lead for breast cancer for the North London Genomics hub. Ms Varghese has won a number of accolades for her dedicated clinical practice, most recently being JCI’s Oustanding Young Person of the Year Award.

- From the first appointment Ms Varghese was engaging and confident in her manner which belies her deep experience in this field. I had every confidence in the outcome having talked through all of the issues in detail with her before undertaking the procedure. I’m extremely happy with the outcome and can honestly say I wish I’d done it earlier!
- I had a split upper lip after a fall and needed suturing. Made time after hours to see me at short notice on a weekend and then squeezed me in to remove the sutures six days later. The scar was tiny compared with the cut and I am extremely grateful for the care Ms Varghese and her team gave me.
