Dr James Tomlinson is a consultant nephrologist at Hammersmith Hospital and an honorary senior clinical lecturer at Imperial College Healthcare Trust. He qualified from St Bartholomew’s and the Royal London School of Medicine with a 1st Class Honours BMedSci and MBBS. During his training, he completed a PhD studying mechanisms of chronic kidney disease at Imperial College and the Medical Research Council. Dr Tomlinson has a medical leadership role as a Head of Specialty in one of the largest renal centres in Europe at Hammersmith Hospital. He also coordinates a multidisciplinary team and tertiary referral service to address rare and complex conditions; retroperitoneal fibrosis (RPF) and IgG4-related disease. His work is aimed at advancing both clinical management and understanding of these challenging conditions.
Dr Tomlinson is an active member of several professional organisations, including the General Medical Council (GMC), the Medical Protection Society (MPS), the Renal Association, and the American Society of Nephrology. His expertise extends to the management of dialysis catheters, where he plays a key role in ensuring effective treatment for patients requiring dialysis.
