Professor James Spratt is an internationally renowned consultant cardiologist based in London and Edinburgh. He specialises in interventional cardiology, coronary angioplasty and coronary artery disease, including complex cases. He additionally has expertise in percutaneous intervention and risk factor management for patients with heart health concerns. His reputation of excellence means he is often consulted for patients with complex cardiac conditions, who have been turned down for surgery by other doctors.
Professor Spratt began his medical education at the University of St Andrews, where he was awarded a bachelor degree in medicine in 1990, before going on to complete a further degree in medicine and surgery at the University of Manchester. In 2004, he was awarded a medical doctorate in clinical research from the University of Edinburgh and went on to complete interventional cardiology training at the University Hospital of Geneva.
Professor Spratt has built an international reputation in complex percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and is one of the most experienced cardiologists in the world who deals with complex coronary disease. He has performed live operative demonstrations internationally and has introduced innovative surgical techniques to help patients with this disease.
Professor Spratt has been working as a leader and educator in the field of cardiology for more than ten years, in over one hundred hospitals worldwide. As well as his work as a consultant cardiologist, he additionally holds the position of professor of interventional cardiology at St George's, University of London. He is also the founder of Optima Education, which offers world-class, expert training for fellow doctors.
